HSIE

Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) is the Key Learning Area which includes both the History and Geography NSW syllabi for the Australian Curriculum.

Children gain an enhanced sense of personal, community, national and global identity and students are enabled to participate effectively in maintaining and improving the quality of their society and environment.

It is through the study of History that students explore Personal and Family Histories, The Past and the Present and Australian History.

It is through the study of Geography that children explore People and Places, Local Environments and the Environments of the World.

At St Cecilia’s HSIE is most commonly integrated with relevant RE and English topics, where particular emphasis is on Gospel values.

Using the Challenge Based Learning Framework students develop inquiry skills of identifying and gathering information, historical inquiry, critical thinking, mapping, presenting information and collaborating with others.

Part of the HSIE program is our Italian language and culture curriculum. The overall purpose of the program is to introduce our children to a different culture as well as to learn speak some Italian.
